Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers is excited to meet team-mate Michael Mayer.
Speaking to the media during the Raiders’ rookie mini camp last weekend, Bowers was asked about Mayer.
“Yeah, I actually haven’t seen him in the facility yet because they’re kind of getting us all integrated and a bunch of stuff that wasn’t too fun yesterday (Thursday). Like, not football stuff, getting checked in and all that.
“So, yeah, I mean, I’m excited to get to know him, hopefully starting next week,” he said.
The No.13 pick of this year’s NFL draft signed his first contract on Thursday ahead of the mini camp.
General Manager Tom Telesco’s decision to select Bowers in his ‘best player available’ approach shocked the league.
The Raiders already have Michael Mayers at tight end, the No.35 pick of the 2023 NFL draft.
Mayers enjoyed a respectable rookie season last year with 27 catches for 304 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games.
Bowers offered his thoughts on how himself and Mayer can cause problems for opposition defences this upcoming season.
“Yeah, I think if you have two great tight ends, I think it’s really hard to match that personnel-wide in order to defend against the pass and the run,” he said.
“So, I mean, I think it makes it difficult for defensive personnel.”
When asked where he fits in alongside the Raiders’ draft class, Bowers didn’t give much away.
“I feel like I’m not going to say much, but I’m going to go out there, do my job, and just do everything to my best abilities and just compete out there,” he added. “So, I think that’s where I fit in with that.”
