Nobody said that being a Las Vegas headliner would be easy, and David Blaine has found that out more painfully than most.
Blaine is, of course, known for insane magic tricks and physical stunts, although he has always appeared to be a perfect fit for a Las Vegas residency.
Sure enough, Blaine’s particular brand of crazy has brought him to Vegas this year for a residency at Resorts World, but it’s not going phenomenally smoothy, it must be said.
The opening to Blaine’s In Spades show involves him taking an 80 foot leap into a large pile of carboard boxes. It’s not a stunt that sounds like you’d want to misjudge, but that is exactly what he did this week.
He got his landing wrong and suffered a dislocated shoulder that left him requiring medical attention on stage. However, in true Las Vegas style, Blaine picked himself up and continued with the show.

A statement read: “Mr. Blaine was treated by doctors from the audience on stage in front of the assembled crowd, where they successfully relocated his right arm, as he experienced extreme pain and discomfort.
“After a short delay, Blaine was able to continue with the show, in pain, but in good humour.”
The fall was reminiscent of another of Blaine’s famous stunts. In 2002, his Vertigo stunt involved him standing at the top of a 100ft column for 35 hours before ending it by leaping into a pile of cardboard boxes.

That one didn’t go all that well either, with him suffering a concussion.
This one of not the first injury he has suffered during his las Vegas residency either. During his December 17 performance, David Blaine pierce his own hand on an ice-pick during a trick involving paper cups.
